It forces me to use my turn signals when changing lanes (so I don't get the lane departure warning) and the adaptive cruise control works great as well. I have all the same options less the WeatherTech mats though I'd like to get them. Nice review, I could have written the same things. We (I) like most options/"toys" because 1) I keep my cars a long time and, frankly, can afford them.īigOil wrote:We purchased a '14 Forest or when came out in May, "top-of-the-line" Touring with EyeSight collision avoidance, NAV and Harmon-Kardon Stereo. One can get a much less-loaded unit and get most of the key benefits at around $25K.

I think the demographics are broadening for this vehicle. Do not think the turbocharger is necessary unless you want to toss it a lot (I am in the 50+ demographic.been there, done that). Terrific ingress egress, great backseats! Very easy to live with day today. EyeSight works well except in carwashes! and direct blinding sunlight really not very expensive for what it is and can do (if I avoid one minor rear ender, or lessen severity, it pays for itself!) Sound is 10+! Works well with iOS devices. It's no more confusing than our other more recent Lexus was. The buttons are a little bit fiddly/small. Some of the reviews, castigated the NAV and stereo. Carpet is cheap feeling feltish but am told is better for cleaning out than pile-based. (her real demographic).įIt and materials are nice-functional, but NOT near-Luxury. Wife like enough day to day forego a Lexus RX AWD. This Forester is a more direct assault on mainstream buyers. In fact the Forester models used to be a station wagons! Now are small SUVs.Ī tiny bit bouncy in handling-but that is to make it better on unimproved roads. It is totally different than everything before except the 2010-2013 Forester which is a close cousin. I would be very careful comparing to previous Subaru models that had known issues(gaskets in particular). Would be a good unit for a farm/rural family on muddy/rain/gravel dirt roads even without the snow climates.

Not sure of full benefits of all-wheel-drive in Florida. We do live in the Great Lakes area however. The almost all positive reviews are accurate.

We purchased a '14 Forest or when came out in May, "top-of-the-line" Touring with EyeSight collision avoidance, NAV and Harmon-Kardon Stereo.Īdded Weathertech mats for days like today, mirror with garage opener, courtesy LED lights on heated exterior mirror, remote start, side molding, rear bumper guard, mud flaps, & custom fit aftermarket front license plate holder (OEM just "dangles much of plate" on 2 screws) note Fuji Heavy Industries likes Dealer/Port added accessories. Would buy the 2014 Forester again in a heartbeat. There is a fuel efficiency penalty for AWD, but I feel our safety is worth it. Debated topic, but from my own experience I seeĪ difference. Problems once in a while in rain, never in either of my Subarus. I have no doubt, even in the rain, AWD is a bit safer than FWD, and my old Toyota Sienna did have traction Since the coupons can accrue up to $400/year, which covers much of the normal wear and tear preventive maintenance costs. Of Subaru coupons, which can be used for maintenance and future car purchases. I also got a Subaru Mastercard (Chase bank), which gives me 3% rebates on all purchases, in the form Subaru this was less true years ago, but I see Subaru's everywhere now in NY so I am less concernedĪbout that. Is that you can bring it anyplace for service and feel confident the mechanics have seen many of the popular So I only considered those two in shopping, despite my past success with Toyotas.Īs far as cost of ownership, the main difference between a mainstream car like Toyota or a popular US car, Honda and Subaru over last couple of years pretty much tied for top reliability and safety ratings, Toyota ratings have declined, after some notable and less publicized reliability and safety issues. I have owned 2 Toyotas, a 1990 and a 1998 model, and while they were great cars, flawless I would say, Subaru ratings have increased, both reliability and safety, over the last few years, since I bought my first. While I did have one annoying issue with my 2000, the 2012 has been great, and I love the 2014 Forester so far.īeen a month and very glad I bought it so far.Īs far as the references above on problems with other years/models, tough to compare yearsĪnd models, but I focus on overall trends of a manufacturer. This is my 3rd Subaru, still have a 2012 Outback which had replaced a 2000 Outback. I just purchased (month ago) the 2014 Forester, but even less Bogleheaded, got the Limited since I wanted the leather seats.
